Another postcard from Great Britain. I love such cards! It incites to learn more about the world around and its great people. Actually, we've learned Dickens in University, so I've been familiar to his works. Dickens was born in England in 1812. He died in 1870.
The most famous novels of Dickens are "Pickwick Papers", "Oliver Twist", "David Copperfield", "Great Expectations", "A Tale of Two Cities".
His first big success was The Pickwick Papers. This was in 1837, the year Victoria became Britain's Queen.
Dickens lived through the Industrial Revolution. He wrote about how life was changing, especially for poor people. Dickens is one of the writers who got their fame inter vivos. He became so famous people knew him as he walked about London. He was a celebrity.
